Mesa del Rey
This table, while serving as a fully functional piece of dining furniture, is also a work of art that conveys a narrative. Drawing inspiration from historical figures such as Louis XIV of France, we observe how life was meticulously structured to orbit around such powerful monarchs. Kings were often regarded as divine entities, with individuals willingly sacrificing their own comfort and dignity to uphold the supremacy of their rule.
Through the design and composition of this table, I aim to encapsulate this dynamic. The spatial arrangement distinctly emphasizes the King’s position, symbolizing his centrality and dominance. The contrasting features: smooth, curved edges on the King’s dining side versus the sharp, discomforting edges on the rest of the table, further reinforce this narrative, reflecting the hierarchical disparity that defined such eras.
